Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary/ holistic therapy that is founded on the beliefs that all the systems of the body are reflected into the feet and hands in specific areas and points. A Practitioner then applies a gentle pressure to these areas/ points to encourage the body to restore homeostasis and return its self-back to a balanced state.
By relaxing and calming the client we are bringing their bodies out of flight or fight responses caused by stress/ anxiety and bringing those cortisol levels back down. The body can then come out of the sympathetic nervous response of fight or flight and allow the parasympathetic nervous system to take over and come into a rest and digest function where it can help preserve the bodies normal homeostasis.
