I became interested in reflexology after receiving reflexology myself after having my three children. I had a lot of emotions going on, very anxious and stressed, as a family we had suffered a great loss, our first child was stillborn at full term. My mum recommended reflexology and it was so relaxing and just a beautifully calming treatment. I loved it straight away and just knew I wanted to be able to do the same for others. My 6-month-old son who had been suffering with RSV and Bronchitis also received reflexology and really benefited from it. So, I trained and haven’t looked back since.
Relaxation
To relax means to calm the mind and the body. Relaxation is a process that lessens the stress effects in your mind and body. Finding ways to relax can help with everyday stress and lessen the effect stress has on us in the long term. Reflexology is a holistic, non-invasive natural way to reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing. By creating a time when the client can go into deep relaxation and give the body and mind time to rebalance and calm.
Stress/ Anxiety
Stress and anxiety can have serious effects on our bodies and mind. It puts our bodies into a fight or flight response. Stress releases cortisol, suppresses our immune system, interferes with our digestion and can affect our blood pressure. Stress causes us to focus on the negative and puts us in a more irritable state. All of these things especially when we are stressed for long periods of time have a negative impact on our health. Stress that is not dealt with can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, obesity and diabetes. By having reflexology it can bring the body out of its fight or flight response and help to bring the body back into a relaxed state bringing those cortisol levels down and having a positive impact on our bodies and minds.
Duopody Reflexology
Duopody reflexology is where as a practitioner we work both feet simultaneously and methodically through the systems of the body. Our bodies and systems are mirrored on our feet and are often across both feet. So we work both feet at the same time in order to be working each body system as a whole.
During your first appointment, firstly we will sit down and go through a consultation form. Taking down key information on current and previous health conditions and symptoms, lifestyle factors and emotional factors. We will then get you comfy in the chair with pillows, towels, and blankets. I will clean/ wipe your feet and have a little look at them and how their presenting before the treatment.
I will then explain what I am going to do and why. I will then apply the reflexology balm and carry out the full Duopody treatment running through all the systems of the body. Depending on what we discuss in the consultation I may bring in other methods such as energy techniques, ART (Advanced reflexology techniques), chakra balancing. Once I have completed the treatment, I will gently let you know and allow you to take a minute to bring yourself back into the room as you will be in a very nice state of relaxation.
We will then go through my findings both physically and emotionally. We will go through some self-care advice and discuss further treatments. Then send you off into your day/ evening feeling relaxed and calm.
Follow on treatments are then exactly the same except we have a catch up at the beginning on what its been like for you since the last treatment with regards to your health, emotions and any changes. The treatments are then individually tailored to you and what we have found in previous treatments and any extra symptoms you have felt since. We can bring in more techniques at this point to help in specific areas such as CALM technique, meridians, NEPIP and more specific energy techniques.
Everybody can respond differently to reflexology. Most people feel as sense of deep relaxation, calmed and a quietened mind. You can feel a bit floaty on your feet, but this eases quickly and is fine. You may need to use the toilet more frequently as the lymphatic and urinary systems have been worked and it can shift any toxins from your system. Some people can feel emotional or tired or have mild headaches, but these are short term and not common. All treatment responses are an indication that your body is responding to the treatments and that it is helping your body return to homeostasis.
